Zacuto Z-Finder Pro 3x

Michael: The Zacuto Viewfinder is the single most important accessory for HDDSLR filming and an invaluable support for focussing manual focus lenses like the Voigtlander Nokton 58mm f/1.4 SL-II or the fantastic Zeiss ZE lenses for Canon / Zeiss ZF.2 lenses for Nikon provided your camera features live view.
The only way you can reliably focus any lens while filming (autofocus is not working here for most cameras), as the viewfinder magnifies the LCD display image on the back of your camera by 3x or 2.5x. Since you press the camera with the viewfinder to your eye, it also stabilizes the camera effectively. It makes the display viewable in all lighting conditions like harsh blending sunlight.
It comes with a mounting plate for either the regular DSLR cameras like the
Canon EOS-5D Mark II and the Canon EOS-7D or the professional bodies like
Canon EOS-1D Mark IV and the Nikon D3S.
The
Zacuto Z-Finder Pro 3x features anti-fog coating and a nice lightproof eyecup.

3x or 2.5x: I personally went for the 3x magnification as I like a bigger live-view display for focussing. Only if you were using a camera with a lower resolution display, the 2.5x would be better, as the 3x might show the magnified pixel grid of the display, which makes it harder to focus. For my cameras and my use the 3x is best.

I recommend to use the additional
Zacuto Z-FRM Mounting Frame for Z-Finder instead of the provided mounting plate, as that leaves the camera bottom free to be attached to a photographic mounting system. The adhesive mounting frames are attached to your camera LCD screen (can be easily detached and leaves no residue or damage to the display). Get one for each of your camera bodies and the Z-Finder Pro 3x can be quickly switched between cameras.
